Built in the fourth year during the Chongning period of the Northern Song Dynasty, Sihan Tianshi Mansion was where generations of celestial masters resided and offered sacrifice to the immortals. In the 16th year of the Republic of China, Chiang Kai Shek restored its original name of “Sihan Tianshi Mansion”, which has been kept in use till now.
Covering an area of more than 50,000 m2 and a construction area of 14,000 m2, this mansion is an ancient Taoist architectural complex of royal style. It is located in the middle of Shangqing Town, with Xihua Mountain on the north, Pipa Peak to the south, the Luxi River near the front, forming a landscape of sided by mountain and water. Inside the mansion, with the camphor trees shading the sky and birds perched on the top, such serene environment makes here very much like a real fairyland and an uncomparable private garden of religious leaders.
